IMPORTANT: DO NOT DROP IN TO THE CONSULATE GENERAL IN SAN FRANCISCO OR BOOK A FLIGHT BEFORE YOU HAVE A CONFIRMED DATE AND TIME FOR YOUR APPOINTMENT!

  • Luxembourg Passports are no longer extended and all citizens must present themselves in person in order to apply for a passport.
  • If you are NOT located in our JURISDICTION: we EXCEPTIONALLY take appointments in San Francisco that are not in our jurisdiction with a valid reason only, but you must ask the Diplomatic Mission in your Jurisdiction (either the Luxembourg Embassy in Washington DC or the Consulate General in New York ) to verify that your information in the Luxembourg Registry is correct or that they have requested to update the information on your behalf
  • The following persons are exempt from the requirement to give fingerprints or to come in person:
            - Children under the age of twelve.

- People who are physically unable to travel must provide a doctor's note which will be sent to Luxembourg for approval:

  1. Please ask your doctor to issue a medical note for you stating that you cannot travel
  2. Email the doctor’s note to sanfrancisco.cg[at]mae.etat.lu or Mail the doctor’s note to the Luxembourg Consulate General, 1 Sansome Street, Suite 830, San Francisco, CA 94104
  3. We will ask the Luxembourg Bureau of Passports for the permission to issue your passport without fingerprinting
  4. We can only proceed with your request for a passport without fingerprinting, once the Bureau of Passports in Luxembourg has given us the approval

  • Please note that it will take at least one month for the issuance of your new biometric passport as diplomatic pouches are mailed to us only once a month
  • Important Note regarding URGENT PASSPORTS (3 day turnaround in Luxembourg): All urgent passports must be picked up at the Bureau of Passports in Luxembourg; you must therefore have someone in Luxembourg who will retrieve the passport for you in person at the Bureau of Passports in the country of Luxembourg and who will also then send it to you.
