Legislative Elections on 8 October 2023 in Luxembourg
On 8 October 2023, legislative elections will be held in Luxembourg.
Voting is mandatory for Luxembourg nationals:
· at least 18 years of age on the day of the election;
· registered on the electoral register of their commune of residence in Luxembourg.
Exceptions to mandatory voting:
· voters aged older than 75 years;
· for Luxembourg nationals without a commune of residence in Luxembourg (not registered on a commune’s electoral register) voting is possible but not mandatory.
Applying to vote by post mail
Voters who wish to vote by post mail must apply for their poll card at their commune of residence. For those without a commune of residence in Luxembourg, applications can be sent to: City of Luxembourg “College of the Mayor and Aldermen” (42, place Guillaume II – L-2090 LUXEMBOURG, Europe).
Applications can be made:
- electronically via MyGuichet.lu; or
- by post mail to the relevant commune or City.
Applications to vote by post mail must include:
· voter’s surname, given name(s),
· date and place of birth,
· domicile,
· address to which the polling card should be sent,
· voter’s solemn declaration that they not been stripped of the right to vote,
· for Luxembourg voters residing abroad, a copy of voter’s valid passport.
Applications to vote by post mail must be received by the relevant commune or City:
- at the earliest by 16 July 2023 and at the latest by 13 September 2023, if the poll card is sent to an address in Luxembourg;
- at the earliest by 16 July 2023 and at the latest by 19 August 2023, if the poll card is sent to an address abroad.
A poll card will be sent by the communal administration to each voter. The poll card also includes instructions for the voter on the polling process as well as the list of candidates.
